Junior Islanders

The Junior Islanders are made up of elite Pee-Wee level players on Long Island selected through a try out. This group of players represent the New York Islanders at the prestigious Quebec Pee Wee Tournament in Quebec held each February. This celebrated tournament provides once in a lifetime experiences for these children and their families and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Considered the most important minor hockey tournament in the world, about 2,300 young hockey players from 16 countries come to Quebec to participate in the "World Championships of Pee-Wee Hockey". This Tournament takes place during a period of 11 days with crowds totaling around 200,000 fans every year. This extraordinary event, very popular, was founded in 1960 and has never ceased to grow in importance.

The 16 players representing the NY Islanders travel to Quebec to compete against teams representing the United States, Canada and other countries throughout the world. In the past, some of the teams the Junior Islanders have played against include teams from Canada, Finland, Russia, Czech Republic and Sweden.

Many stars from the National Hockey League have passed through this Tournament: including current Islander Kyle Okposo and CoachDoug Weight; and hockey greats Patrick Roy, Guy Lafleur, Gilbert Perrault, Mark Howe, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Eric Lindros.
